HERITAGE PLANS

Many municipalities in the Netherlands commissioned the drawing up of a heritage plan. The aim of this plan is to make heritage an integrated part of local authority policy, with a focus on integration into the spatial and tourism-leisure policy. The first plan was drawn up by Cuijpers Consultancy and was adopted by the town council on 1 February 2001. Many municipalities have followed since then.

Analysis of the current situation

The analysis of the current heritage is based on extensive literary research and a site analysis. All the existing elements and structures have been included on the inventory map, including (remains of) historical infrastructure, residential structures, buildings, land use. In combination with the data from (national) monuments, this generates a full picture of the relics present.

a vision for the future

The most important part of the heritage plan is the answer to the question: “What are we going to do with it?” The drawing up of an inventory of the heritage present scarcely has any meaning if this question is not answered. The measures proposed in the Heritage Plan can be divided into two categories:

1:
the policy-oriented measures with agreements on how to deal with all manner of cultural-historical aspects in general.

2: the area-oriented measures which contain proposals for improving certain areas of the municipality so that more justice is done to the values present.
